Great little device, makes knifes/screwdriver bits glow in seconds. Works as described, >100W for 12V, seems to be around 200kHz when idle - haven't checked it under load.

The unit oscillates with frequency 157 kHz according to my scope. At 6.5 V the current 1.65 A goes across 1 mm wire coil (12 turns diameter 1.5 cm). After insertion of thin steel wire the current rises to 3.5 A and red glow emerges fast. Under these conditions the unit can run for an infinite time - it gets warm, but the active cooling is not actually necessary. I haven't tested it at higher voltage/currents yet - anyway it seems, it's a good, reliable product, professionally assembled with caution.

make sure you connect it the right way. ps also don't put in to big pieces to heat. Will require more power

      A:
iuse a batterycharger 12Vdc-10A (=120Watts), i've put a smal pc ventilator to cool the circuit, all in a small box with the coil sticking out. working still great for small objects, only once 1transistor burnt, replaced it, working great since. 2 years use until now

Q: I connected with 12V (5A) power supply. LED turns on. I put metal thing inside coil and I felt heat. Unfortunately after 5 sec. LED starts blinking and heat stopped. Did I broke this? :/
      A:
I think it needs way more current, 5A are at approx 3,3V at 5V there have to be a minimum of 7A and 12V above 16A available ... with to less current D21 get burned as happened with mine

Q: if you install cooling fans can it work for longer?
      A:
